Job description

We are looking for a Senior Associate with 6+ years of experience in cybersecurity law, specifically focused on incident response. The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of the legal and regulatory aspects of cybersecurity incidents, strong analytical skills, and a proven track record of managing and responding to complex cybersecurity breaches. As a Senior Associate, you will play a crucial role in advising clients, managing incident response efforts, and contributing to the growth of our Cybersecurity practice.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert legal advice and counsel to clients on incident response, including breach notification requirements, regulatory obligations, and mitigation strategies.
  • Lead and manage incident response efforts, working closely with clients, forensic experts, and other stakeholders to contain and remediate cybersecurity incidents.
  • Conduct thorough investigations of cybersecurity breaches, including data analysis, evidence collection, and coordination with law enforcement when necessary.
  • Assist clients in developing and implementing robust incident response plans and policies to prepare for potential cybersecurity threats.
  • Represent clients in regulatory investigations and enforcement actions related to cybersecurity incidents.
  • Stay current with emerging cybersecurity threats, technologies, and regulatory changes to provide clients with up-to-date advice and best practices.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT, risk management, and compliance, to ensure comprehensive incident response strategies.
  • Mentor and supervise junior attorneys and legal staff, providing guidance and support in their professional development.
  • Contribute to business development efforts, including client pitches, presentations, and thought leadership initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school..
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in cybersecurity law, with a focus on incident response, preferably at a reputable law firm or in-house legal department.
  • Extensive knowledge of Canadian and international cybersecurity laws and regulations, including breach notification requirements.
  • Strong analytical, research, and writing skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with clients, colleagues, and other stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring abilities.
  • A proactive, solution-oriented approach to legal issues.
