AI Governance & Regulatory Compliance Expert – Hybrid (with Travel to Belgium)

Contract/Freelance – Long-Term Engagement

We are currently supporting a large international organisation in their search for an experienced AI Governance and Regulatory Compliance Expert to join a strategic programme focused on the safe and compliant adoption of Artificial Intelligence across multiple business areas.

This is a hybrid position with flexibility to work remotely within the EU, but will require regular on-site presence in Belgium (e.g., Brussels or another major hub). EU nationality or valid work permit is mandatory.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support the development and implementation of AI governance frameworks aligned with EU regulations, including the EU AI Act and ISO42001.
  • Translate complex technical AI concepts into actionable compliance and policy recommendations.
  • Engage with diverse technical and policy stakeholders to facilitate alignment across departments and jurisdictions.
  • Drive regulatory compliance initiatives related to AI, data protection, and emerging technologies.
  • Draft high-quality documentation, reports, and presentation materials for senior leadership and regulatory bodies.
  • Support cross-functional collaboration on risk management, data governance, and ethical AI practices.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent (minimum five years of higher education).
  • Proven experience in AI governance, compliance, or policy development.
  • Strong understanding of technical AI systems and their regulatory implications.
  • Experience in working with or interpreting regulatory frameworks (e.g. GDPR, EU AI Act, ISO27001, ISO42001).
  • Ability to manage complex projects autonomously and provide regular status updates.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in English (C1/C2 level); French (B2) is a plus.
  • Experience facilitating multi-stakeholder meetings and bridging technical and non-technical domains.
  • Familiarity with document management systems and collaborative tools (e.g., MS Office Suite, SharePoint).

Additional Desirable Qualifications:

  • Background in international organisations or multicultural environments.
  • Certifications such as CISSP, CIPP/E, ISO27001 Lead Auditor, or similar are advantageous.
  • Knowledge of AI risk management frameworks and data governance best practices.
