Job description

IT Risk Consultant - Freelance
Amsterdam €700/day

We are seeking an experienced IT Risk Consultant to strengthen the function of a leading multinational organisation. This role focuses on safeguarding the organisation’s global M365 platform and related services, ensuring risks are identified, addressed, and kept within tolerance levels. You will take ownership of risk management activities across the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd lines of defense while supporting the delivery of secure and compliant collaboration services to a global workforce.

What you bring

  • A degree or proven background in Computer Science, Business Administration, IT Audit, IT Risk, IT Security, or equivalent professional experience

  • Practical experience managing or controlling large-scale, hybrid (SaaS and on-premises) collaboration platforms in complex multinational environments; M365 certifications are a plus

  • Solid understanding of IT security principles, with exposure to regulatory frameworks such as DORA, EBA, GDPR and compliance standards relevant to M365

  • Ability to assess risks, define mitigation strategies, and translate these into clear actions and realistic plans

  • Knowledge of outsourcing models and their impact at operational, tactical, and strategic levels, with experience coordinating internal and external service providers

  • Previous exposure to highly regulated environments, ideally financial services, where clear segregation exists between Risk, Audit, Security, Cyber Security, and related functions

Nice to have

  • Stakeholder management skills, with the ability to interact comfortably with both senior executives and technical teams

  • Excellent communication skills, capable of simplifying complex topics for diverse audiences

  • A persistent, solution-driven mindset with the ability to adapt and find alternatives when challenges arise

  • A proactive, open-minded approach with a willingness to learn and collaborate across global teams

Key responsibilities

  • Act as the subject matter expert for risk-related matters in the Employee Productivity & Collaboration IT Area (e.g., Office 365)

  • Support IT Area Leads and Product Managers in addressing and mitigating risks in a timely manner

  • Work closely with IT security teams to implement controls, enforce compliance policies, and manage vulnerabilities

  • Contribute to an agile environment by taking initiative, prioritising activities with leadership, and driving projects independently when needed
