The ongoing energy transition to renewable energy sources and therefore the electrification of heating (through heat pumps) as well as the transportation sector, bring new exciting challenges in home energy management. Energy consumption needs to match the volatility of renewable energy sources, like wind and solar.
tado° is working on intelligent solutions that help our customers to consume electricity at times when there is more supply from renewable sources, while also helping them to save money on their electricity bills - for a more sustainable future.

Your role
Together with your team, you will be responsible for developing tado°’s latest service offering that automatically shifts electricity consumption to times when prices are low and when there is a high supply from renewable sources in the electricity grid.
In 2022, we launched Balance AC, our first service for air-to-air heat pumps (air conditioners), and we are currently working on an additional service for air-to-water heat pumps.
As part of our cross-functional team, your daily business will involve the following:
Discover opportunities together with other engineers, a UX designer, and a product manager.
Participate in and lead data-driven decision-making to find the next value-adding solution.
Engage with users regularly through qualitative and quantitative research.
Bring the right solutions to life - fast and sustainable - using JVM-based languages and frameworks.
Deploy small version increments to production, then monitor and scale it on AWS infrastructure.
As of today, we are using the following technologies: Kotlin (Spring), TypeScript, AWS, GitHub, GitHub Copilot, and Google Workspace for collaboration.
Requirements
You have a broad technical experience in backend development (senior), as well as in AWS cloud services, and you're confident in getting into new technologies or unknown code bases.
You are conscientious, used to taking the initiative over receiving directions, and can manage your time and focus.
You actively seek opportunities to improve yourself, the working process, your team collaboration, and feedback mechanisms.
You have experience in rapidly introducing incremental change to production systems.
You are effective in explaining complex topics in English, appropriately tailoring your delivery according to your audience.
Having experience in setting up data pipelines for data analyses is a plus (using AWS, Python, Jupyter)
You are interested (having experience is a plus) in smart energy management and HVAC technology.
